Why Transfer Chase Points to Travel Partners?

Before we get into the โ€œhow,โ€ letโ€™s talk about the โ€œwhy.โ€ When you redeem Chase points through the Chase Travel Portal, you can get 1.25 to 1.5 cents per point in value, depending on your card. Thatโ€™s not bad, but when you transfer points to travel partners, you can often get 2 cents or more per point, especially when booking premium flights or high-end hotels.

Transferring points gives you more flexibility, access to exclusive award availability, and the chance to maximize the value of your hard-earned rewards.

Which Chase Cards Are Eligible to Transfer Points?

Not all Chase cards are created equal when it comes to transferring points. To unlock the ability to transfer to travel partners, you need to have at least one of the following premium Chase Ultimate Rewardsยฎ cards:

๐Ÿ’ณ Chase Sapphire Preferredยฎ Card (My favorite card!)

  • 3x points on dining, online grocery, and streaming services
  • 2x points on travel
  • Points can be transferred 1:1 to travel partners

๐Ÿ’ณ Chase Sapphire Reserveยฎ

  • 3x points on travel and dining
  • 50% more value when redeemed for travel directly through Chase Travelโ„
  • Points can be transferred 1:1 to travel partners

๐Ÿ’ณ Ink Business Preferredยฎ Credit Card

  • 3x points on travel, shipping, internet, cable, phone services, and advertising purchases (up to $150,000 annually)
  • Primary car insurance, and perks including cellphone and purchase protection
  • Points can be transferred 1:1 to travel partners

If you have other Chase cards like the Chase Freedom Flexยฎ, Freedom Unlimitedยฎ, or Ink Business Cashยฎ, you can still earn points, but youโ€™ll need to pair them with one of the premium cards listed above to unlock transfer capabilities. You can combine points between your cards and then transfer them.

Pro Tip: I personally use my Chase Freedom Flex card for the 5x quarterly bonus in certain categories, and then combine my points with my Sapphire Preferred so I can transfer them to partners!

How to Transfer Chase Points to Travel Partners

The transfer process is quick and easy โ€” hereโ€™s a step-by-step walkthrough:

  • 1: Log in to your Chase account. Go to chase.com/ultimaterewards and log in to the account associated with your Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, or Ink Preferred.
  • 2: Select the Travel dropdown and then select โ€œTransfer points to partners.โ€
  • 3: Youโ€™ll see a list of Chaseโ€™s airline and hotel partners. Choose the program you want to transfer to. There are also tabs across the top to narrow down the list. The “Enrolled” section will display partners you have already transferred to.
  • 4: You will see an “Offers” tab that will display all the current transfer bonus partners. Transfer bonuses are promotional offers that allow you to transfer your points at a more favorable rate.

For example, the bonus below will increase your ratio from 1:1 to 1:1.8, giving you 80% more IHG miles per Chase point. This is a great deal if you have an IHG stay coming up!
  • 4: If you havenโ€™t linked your airline or hotel loyalty account yet, youโ€™ll need to do that first. Make sure the names match exactly to avoid issues. The name on the Chase card must match the name on the loyalty account.
  • 5: Transfers must be done in increments of 1,000 points. Enter how many you want to send and click “Next”.
  • 6: Review the transfer. Double check everything, and hit “Submit”, and youโ€™re done! You will receive a confirmation screen that your transfer is in progress and 2 emails, one that your transfer is in progress, and another when it’s complete.

Note: Once points are transferred, itโ€™s a one-way street โ€” you canโ€™t reverse it. Only transfer when you have a specific redemption in mind.
