Tiny Cabin Getaway- A Weekend With Postcard Cabins

If you’ve been craving a tiny cabin getaway that actually helps you slow down, this one deserves a spot on your radar. I spent a long weekend in Osceola, Missouri, at Postcard Cabins Ozark Highlands, and it was exactly the kind of reset I didn’t know I needed.

I went with two other girls for a long weekend with one goal in mind. Read books, hike, unplug, and spend quality time together without a packed itinerary. Postcard Cabins delivered on all of that, and then some.

What Are Postcard Cabins?

Postcard Cabins are modern tiny cabins tucked into wooded, remote locations across the U.S. The concept is to give guests a comfortable place to sleep, cook, and relax while encouraging them to disconnect from daily noise and reconnect with nature.

Each location is intentionally placed within about a two-hour drive of a major city, which makes it an easy weekend escape without needing flights or extensive planning. The Ozark Highlands location in Missouri felt very secluded, sitting on hundreds of acres of forested land.

Now that Postcard Cabins are part of Marriott’s Outdoor Collection, you can earn and redeem Marriott Bonvoy points for your stay. That alone makes this tiny cabin getaway even more appealing if you collect points.

Postcard Cabins Locations

Postcard Cabins has locations across the United States, making it easy to plan a tiny cabin getaway close to home. Current locations include areas in:

  • Missouri
  • Ohio
  • Virginia
  • Texas
  • Georgia
  • California
  • New York
  • Kentucky
  • Tennessee
  • North Carolina
  • Pennsylvania

If you want to see the full list of destinations and find the best location for your trip, you can browse all Postcard Cabins locations through Marriott’s Outdoor Collection.

Each location follows the same general concept, but the scenery and surroundings vary, which makes it fun to try different ones over time.

I stayed at Postcard Cabins Ozark Highlands, which is located in Osceola, Missouri, deep in the Ozarks. Getting there involves a drive through rural Missouri and a stretch of gravel road near the end. It’s remote, quiet, and intentionally removed from city life.

Once you arrive, you immediately feel like you’ve left the busy world behind. There are no crowded parking lots or hotel lobbies. Just trees, cabins, and a lot of quiet.

Arrival and Check-In Experience

One thing I loved about this tiny cabin getaway was how easy check-in was. There’s no front desk and no traditional check-in process.

On the day of arrival, we received a text message with our cabin name, keypad code, and link to the map to easily find our cabin. That code unlocks the cabin door, so you can arrive on your own schedule without waiting in line or coordinating arrival times.

It felt very relaxed and stress-free, which set the tone for the rest of the weekend.

The right page displays a map with green trails and roads, indicating cabin locations with numbered circles. A map key explains road types and trail bearings. Sparse green trees and a compass add to the outdoor theme.

Postcard Cabin Amenities

Our cabin had two queen bunk beds, which worked perfectly for the three of us. You can also get a one queen bed layout. The space itself is small, it was a little shocking at first. There are ledges on the sides of both beds that provided storage for your luggage, while still leaving enough room for sleeping, cooking, and moving around without feeling cramped.

Cozy cabin interior with wooden walls and ceiling. A bed with white linens sits by a large window showing trees. Nearby, a kitchenette and wooden table.

That said, I wouldn’t recommend more than three people in this particular cabin layout. It worked for us, but four would feel tight.

They also offer accessible cabins, which include mobility ramps at the entrance to the cabin and a roll-in shower.

Inside the cabin, you’ll find:

  • Comfortable beds with clean linens
  • A small bathroom with a hot shower
  • A kitchenette with a stovetop, mini fridge, cookware, and dishes
    • Bottled water, instant coffee, firewood, playing cards, and a lantern
  • Heating and air conditioning

Everything is compact, but functional. It’s not luxury in the traditional sense, but it’s exactly what you want for a tiny cabin getaway focused on simplicity.

Another thing I noticed is the flooring. It reminded me of when I was in the tea houses in Japan. The flooring is called tatami, and it regulates humidity, provides insulation, and is a natural air purifier. You are not supposed to wear your shoes on this flooring, and Postcard Cabins asks you to remove your shoes before entering.

Outdoor Space and Fire Pits

Every cabin has its own private outdoor space, which ended up being where we spent most of our time. There’s a fire pit, seating, and a picnic table, making it easy to cook, read, or just sit and talk.

Postcard Cabins also provides daily essentials through a destination fee, including three firewood bundles with starter kits, a s’mores kit, a snack bundle with water, plus four servings each of coffee, tea, and hot chocolate, which are all replenished daily. Evenings around the fire pit were easily the highlight of our stay.

Disconnecting on Purpose

One of the most unique parts of this tiny cabin getaway is how intentional Postcard Cabins is about disconnecting.

Inside the cabin, they provide a lock box for your phones. You don’t have to use it, but the suggestion alone makes you pause and think about how often you reach for your phone out of habit.

We didn’t lock our phones away the entire weekend, but we used them far less than usual. With no TV, no distractions, and limited cell service, it was surprisingly easy to stay present.

Wooden lockbox labeled "Cellphone Lockbox" sits on a table, suggesting a playful way to disconnect. Warm, rustic tone emphasizes simplicity and escape.

Things to do at Postcard Cabins Ozark Highlands

This tiny cabin getaway is all about slowing down, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do. The experience is less about checking off activities and more about enjoying simple moments, both at the cabin and just beyond it.

During our long weekend, most of our time was spent right at the cabin. We read books, cooked easy meals, sat around the fire pit, and went on relaxed hikes through the surrounding woods.

If you want to venture off the property, there are a couple of low-key stops nearby that are worth adding to your itinerary.

One fun stop is the Amish Trading Post, where you can browse handmade goods, home decor, baked items, and locally made products. It’s a great place to pick up a souvenir or a few snacks to bring back to the cabin.

Another nearby favorite is Osceola Cheese, a classic roadside stop known for its wide selection of cheeses, meats, and specialty foods. We loved grabbing a few items here to enjoy back at the cabin, especially since cooking is part of the experience.

Whether you spend your entire stay unplugged in the woods or mix in a few short outings, Postcard Cabins Ozark Highlands makes it easy to create a tiny cabin getaway that feels unhurried and relaxed.

Postcard Cabins FAQ

Are Postcard cabins good for groups?

Postcard Cabins work best for small groups. We stayed as a group of three and were comfortable. The space is intentionally small and designed for quiet, low key stays rather than group trips or social gatherings. The cabins are also not very close together.

Who is Postcard Cabins best for?

This tiny cabin getaway is ideal for couples, solo travelers, and small friend groups who want to unplug. It’s perfect if you enjoy nature, reading, hiking, and slowing down. If you’re looking for nightlife, restaurants, or lots of activities, this likely won’t be the right fit.

Can you earn Marriott Bonvoy points at Postcard Cabins?

Yes. Postcard Cabins is part of Marriott’s Outdoor Collection, which means you can earn and redeem Marriott Bonvoy points and elite night credits during your stay. It’s a great option if you want to earn points without staying in a traditional hotel.

Are Postcard Cabins pet-friendly?

Yes, but dogs only! There is typically a non-refundable pet fee of around $50. My dog would have loved the wooded surroundings and hikes, but keep the small space in mind if you have a big dog.

Final Thoughts

This tiny cabin getaway was exactly the reset I hoped it would be. Peaceful, intentional, and refreshingly simple. The kind of trip that doesn’t try to impress you with endless amenities, but instead gives you the space to slow down and enjoy the moment you’re in.

Between quiet mornings, wooded hikes, evenings around the fire pit, and time spent actually talking without distractions, the experience felt grounding in the best way. It reminded me how restorative a low-key weekend can be when you let go of schedules and screens.

If you’re craving a calm escape that feels cozy and unplugged, Postcard Cabins Ozark Highlands is a wonderful choice!
